Proudly designed in the wilds of the Rocky Mountains, Foothills County, Calgary, and the town of Didsbury — I am thrilled to have this film hit screens of all sizes in early 2021. Working with Robin, Big Beach, Flashlight Films, poet DOP Bobby Bukowski, and all the many great minds behind this picture, has been a wonderful journey. Focus Features is set to release the film on February 12, 2021.
“What ensues is no glamping adventure, no rebirth-through-fixer-upper escapade, but a primal collision. The unfussy lensing by cinematographer Bobby Bukowski captures the brilliance and the brutal intensity of the stunning Alberta locations. “Rustic” doesn’t begin to describe Edee’s log cabin, with its raw wood and brick, its outhouse and its layers of dust and detritus. Trevor Smith’s production design alludes to the ghosts of previous occupants just as deftly as he conveys the privilege of Edee’s city life through a couple of briefly glimpsed interiors: her comfortable apartment and the therapist’s elegant office.” - The Hollywood Reporter
Here are a few sneak peaks at the centre-piece cabin and out buildings we built on Moose Mountain. Huge thank you to master decorator Robert Hepburn, Art Director Mark Stope, Construction Coordinator Jurgen Lutze, Paint Coordinator Tom Johnson, Greens Coordinator Big John Dambrauskas, and Props Master Johnny Jones. Special thanks to Allyn Stewart, Kim Winther, and Yvonne Melville for believing in me the whole way.
“From acclaimed actress Robin Wright comes her directorial debut ‘Land,’ the poignant story of one woman’s search for meaning in the vast and harsh American wilderness. Edee (Wright), facing unbearable demons, finds herself unable to stay connected to the world she once knew and retreats to the magnificent, but unforgiving, wilds of the Rockies. After a local hunter (Bichir) brings her back from the brink of death, she must find a way to live again.”
While announcing the film as part of its 2021 lineup, Sundance organizers said in a statement: “Acclaimed actress Robin Wright returns to the Sundance Film Festival with her feature film directorial debut, set in the picturesque but unforgiving wilds of nature. Wright stands out in her performance as Edee, a woman lost in grief, while Demián Bichir’s subdued and charming presence depicts an unexpected and reflective companion who questions Edee’s abrupt choices. ‘Land’ is a quiet yet masterful journey into the complex desire for solitude as a woman searches for meaning in the vast and harsh American wilderness.” …
